bio:
To most folks, Joshua Folmar is your normal twenty-something college student. He works
a job when he's not in class, has a reliable stable of friends and a pretty typical
social life. School on the weekdays, a usual break on the weekends and a look that
wouldn't seem out of place in any lecture hall. If a crowd of college students are
walking towards you, there's nothing about Josh that's going to make him jump out at you.
Simply put, he seems pretty much like everyone else.
As is usually the case with assumptions, those "most folks"...well, they're wrong. They
couldn't be more wrong. Josh's story is a fascinating one, most notably marked by his
service as a Marine in Iraq. He is that normal twenty-something college student-- but
he's seen and experienced things that most people can't imagine. It's those travels
and moments, and the aftermath of them, that shape his music. And that music-- well,
it's not exactly for the faint of heart.
Josh isn't dark. He's honest. He's a bluesman. He sings about his experiences because
that's what bluesmen do. And we listen because we're drawn to authenticity. We're drawn
to reflections of real life and stories of places and worlds we don't live in. Josh's
music has elements of adventure, despair, trials and triumphs. Most of all, it's
believable. When Josh sings, you believe him. And when it's all said and done, that might
be the best compliment you can give a musician.
